The Sports Development Programme forms a central pillar of the Ngwathe Easter
Experience 2026 and utilises sport as a platform for youth development, social cohesion, behavioural change and community empowerment.
The programme consists of two integrated components: the Tumahole High School Soccer Games and the Edgar Legoale Knockout Easter Soccer Tournament. Together, these initiatives create a structured pathway from school-level participation to community-level competition, providing opportunities for young people to participate in organised sport while promoting positive social values.
Guided by the theme “Our Goals Are Bigger Than Drugs”, the Sports Development Programme positions football as a vehicle for awareness, discipline, leadership and positive behavioural change among young people.
The programme further contributes to local economic participation through the
engagement of service providers, temporary employment opportunities and support for local businesses.
The Sports Development Programme was designed to harness the power of sport as a
catalyst for personal growth, community development and social transformation.
The programme sought to:
• Promote youth development through structured sporting activities
• Encourage discipline, teamwork and leadership
• Provide safe and constructive recreational opportunities
• Strengthen school and community sports structures
• Promote positive lifestyle choices among young people
• Address social challenges through awareness-driven programming
• Support local economic participation and job creation
• Identify and nurture sporting talent within the community
By combining grassroots participation with competitive football, the programme created
opportunities for both development and recreation while contributing to the broader
objectives of the Ngwathe Easter Experience.
